A Visionary Educator
Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian was the Founder President of Sri Balaji Society (SBS) and Founder Chancellor of Sri Balaji University, Pune (SBUP) - the governing bodies of BIMHRD and other sister-concerned management institutes. He was an eminent educationist, writer, and decorated Army officer who believed deeply in transforming young talent into capable professionals prepared for corporate life. A stronger believer of discipline, determination, and dedication, he infused these values in every student.
Born into a humble family, Prof. Dr. (Col.) A. Balasubramanian overcame early challenges to pursue education and service. He joined the Indian Army as a sepoy and served the nation with distinction for 28 years, retiring as a Subedar.
During his military service, he earned three post‑graduate degrees with excellent performance, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning. Later, in recognition of his contributions, he became the first Indian from the armed forces to be conferred the Honorary Rank of Colonel after retirement, an honour shared with notable personalities in sport and public life.
Prof. Bala’s educational journey was far from ordinary - he often spoke about education as a source of knowledge, skill, and attitude, vital for personal growth and nation‑building. His own life reflected this belief, inspiring many students to aim high regardless of their background.

Under his leadership, Sri Balaji Society began its journey in 1998 and went on to establish multiple management institutes, including BIMM, BITM, BIIB, and BIMHRD, which later became part of Sri Balaji University, Pune. His efforts also extended to helping set up institutes like Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies (SIMS) earlier in his career.
Today, the institutions he founded continue to uphold his core philosophy: industry‑focused learning, commitment to quality education, and strong placement outcomes. His enduring influence is seen in the success of thousands of alumni and the sustained growth of SBUP’s academic community. His life story serves as a powerful example for students aspiring to excel in management and leadership.
